Brushing and Paint Designs

These brand new back combing templates have been developed to offer an alternative from the chequer board and sharks tooth designs you are used to seeing.

They are made from heavy grade rubberised vinyl and are also magnetic,  so when not in use can be stuck against a panel inside your horsebox for easy storage.

Like the traditional back combing templates  they work in the same way and can be used to build up a symmetrical pattern in your horses coat.

For best results, we have found the following method works well

Brushing Instructions

Always use a soft brush to prevent accidental damage to your stencil

For using as a traditional brushing quarter marker, damp the coat first and brush the hair in the opposite direction.  Apply the stencil and then brush the pattern in with downward strokes.  Remove stencil and then apply hairspray to set the design.  Dusting lightly with glitter spray can also be used at this stage for subtle highlighting of the design.

IMPORTANT - use only temporary hair colour paints which are intended for spray on, wash off application. We have found ‘Colour-FX’ paints to be the most effective to date and can be purchased from our website.

Please use caution when first applying paints as some horses may react to the noise.

Paint Instructions

Find somewhere sheltered to apply the design to reduce the risk of overspray down when applying the paint (back of trailer, lorry etc)

Figure where you want it to go, and then hold the design flat against the side of your horse making sure your horse isn't 'slouching' as this can make a bulge which will allow the paint to 'bleed'

After giving the paint can a good shake, spray evenly from about 4"- 6" all the way around the design until you are confident you have good coverage before lifting off.

Use a damp sponge or baby wipe to remove any overspray if required.

Leave the paint to dry for a couple of minutes. Wash or wipe the stencil over with a baby wipe to clean it and keep it stored flat as some of them are fairly intricate and need to be treated with respect to preserve them.

Give it a dusting of hairspray to fix it and off you go.

At the end of the day, sponge it off and that is that !
