Clipping Stencils for all year round

Watch the video of a stencil being clipped !

HOW DO THEY WORK ?

Simple clipping stars or other solid shapes just need peeling from the wax backing and sticking to a clean area before being clipped around to define.

Stencilbum custom clipping stencils (patent pending) consists of three parts sandwiched together. (1) A waxed backing paper, (2) the adhesive vinyl stencil itself, and (3) over the front is a clear application film sheet.

The clear application film helps to support the stencil whilst it’s being transferred from its wax backing paper to your horses coat. When you shave the hair short through the holes in the stencil, this leaves the design itself in long hair with a tidy short haired border around it.

This allows its design to be clipped both into an unclipped coat, a fully clipped coat, or anything in between !.

All Stencilbum clipping stencils have a pattern of webs incorporated to hold the elements of them together whilst you work.

You clip right through these webs with your trimmers to form the design in the coat to make life easier.

The Stencilbum method also means that if you start with a partial clip, and you decide to take more off, the clipped design will still remain in long hair on your horse. Because this method only takes a minimum of hair off, it means that you can also clip a design into the summer coat once your horse has fully shed its winter one and this will remain until the winter coat starts to grow!

HOW ARE THEY APPLIED ?

Before you start:- The ideal coat length for stencil clipping is between 12mm (1/2”) & 19mm (3/4”). If it’s been recently clipped short, the stencil won’t have enough hair to stick to, and you will have to wait. If it’s too long, the length will give you a real task, and mean that the overlapping hair may distort the image as you follow the design with your clippers. If you want to clip a design in a longer coat, Use a set of trimmers with a length guard on the target area to reduce the coats length as advised before proceeding and this will improve accuracy and speed up the clipping process.

WASH, dry and brush the target area before you start so the coat is clean, grease, dust free & running the same way,

They don’t stick to dirt or grease!

CHOOSING a sheltered spot to work in, lay the stencil face down on a flat clean surface.

STARTING from one end peel the waxed backing off the template by putting a crease in it.

Carefully dragging this crease across the design you will release the stencil onto the clear application film.

If the stencil starts to lift from the application film, move the crease back and try again.

Take care to ensure you don't tear or distort the template as you do this

.

ONCE the backing paper is off, pick the stencil up by the application film,

POSITION and smooth down on the horse in the desired location.

PEEL the application film from the stencil carefully to leave the stencil on the horse.

USE the edge of the blade on your trimmers to carve the shape, by clipping through the holes in the template to define the design.

The webs attaching the design to the perimeter help to keep the design on the horse whilst you work so clip straight through them to shave the hair underneath as they are only soft vinyl.

ONCE this is done, peel off the stencil in the direction of the hair and tidy with your trimmers to finish if required.

RE-TRIM every few weeks as required to retain the design in your horses coat.

Remember! - The template offers an accurate guide to work from, but the finished result is down to the level of care you take when working.
